No Contacts, No Glasses, No Problem!
Myopia, typically known as nearsighted vision, is the most common eye condition among both adults and children. In order to promote stronger eyesight over the long-term, it’s important to control and discourage the progression of myopia.
With myopia control, specialized lenses intended only for overnight wear are worn with the goal of shaping the cornea while you sleep. This method is called Orthokeratology, or Gentle Vision Shaping System (GVSS). In the morning, your vision will be acute and clear after removing the Ortho-k lenses. With this system, there’s no need to put in daytime lenses or wear eyeglasses.
Dr. Jeanine Graves is one of the very few optometrists in New Jersey with a specialty in myopia control for adults and children. Through the use of new methods, such as OrthoK or Bifocal lenses, she may be able to help preserve your eyesight. For more information about these cutting-edge treatments and to discuss your candidacy, please contact Dr. Graves at her Fair Lawn, New Jersey office today.

Dr. Graves Answers Your Questions About Getting Started with Myopia Control
Which is the right approach for me to control myopia?
Although no solution has been proven conclusively, there are a number of alternative treatments that may slow the progression of myopia in children. Among these is the possibility of prescribing corneal reshaping lenses, multifocal contact lenses, or orthokeratology. Much like a retainer for teeth, these contacts are put in at night before going to bed. The contacts then gently reshape the front surface of the eye as your child sleeps, and when they wake up in the morning they simply take out the lenses and enjoy improved vision for the day up to 20/20. Studies have shown that this type of therapy may actually slow the progression of myopia in children. For adults, soft bifocals are great for adults because they perform well for near and far distance.
